Writers block is doomed with these 10 tricks, because your possibilities are endless and we want to help you gain them. Instead of wondering about all the wasted time you've spent trying to write, what new achievement will result from your renewed creativity today?
The first step to banishing writer’s block is taking a look at what is involved with a creative mind. You need to be curious, knowledgeable, and imaginative, with these three important things, you can start to connect the dots, form an idea, and then a plan.
When you're getting ready to write, but nothing seems like it’s flowing or will be good enough, don’t worry because we have created a cheat sheet to follow!
Here are the questions you can think of when you get writer's block or become stuck and don't know what you should write about.
The power of observation to unlock your writing
One way I let my mind simmer is actually observing other people. There is something quite special about discovering new ideas when you focus your attention off yourself. This is absolute gold when it comes to writing anything, because it lets you laugh, watch, and think about how you might do it differently. When you are watching something else or someone else, do not let your own judgments interfere.
In order to avoid any bias, you will want to make sure you're looking at things with an open mind and not just labeling people because of their actions or behaviors. This will also help you to consider all the different ways that any event might unfold.
You can plan in 15 minute breaks during your writing sessions for your people watching exercises. This will prevent your mind from falling asleep on you when you're in need of it most.
You can also gain more information this way because you get to stop what is going on and start to do something for the sake of your own sanity.
Too often have I caught myself getting frustrated at finding the right words, just to realize I probably needed a timeout in order not to reflect that frustration with my words.
Just remember that you want to go right back to writing as soon as your break is over. That way 15 minutes doesn't end up turning into several hours.
Looking at different angles to gain ideas to write about
This one is similar to having an open mind but the biggest difference is you want to visualize each experience from as many point of views as you can think of.
The reason is that you will create several ideas and can go with the absolute best ones, and then you will have left over ideas to use at a different time. This will help to minimize the potential to get stuck again or having to redo everything.
Pay attention and ask yourself if it's everything or can you find something else that will be relevant. You will be amazed how much is possible to achieve in just a short period. Curiosity comes from a desire to learn more than you already know.
What else interests you which you just discovered? I keep a notebook with me at all times so that anything and everything gets jotted down. This is a fantastic way to keep track of ideas and to start forming new topics to write about.
Don't forget the plan, it's why you are always looking to learn a new thing each day. This will increase your knowledge base and help you draw upon new ideas whenever you need to be more creative.
Using your senses to get unstuck and free write
An easy way to start writing is to use each of the five senses and describe what is all around you. This will lead you to form questions about other scenarios or situations which will trigger your forgotten memories.
When you can start to include mindfulness meditation into your daily life, you will see that your mind can focus on things much better than before.
This is a great idea for anyone who finds themselves stuck and unable to write when they are scheduled to. Not only is it a great way to relax it's also a wonderful way to quiet your mind and just sit back observing.
This will even allow you to describe with more detail and explain to somebody else what you have found that works. Start small and work your way up to more complex lessons.
Over time, you will find even more things that excite you and that will drive you to become more passionate about everything you write.
